Members who have given more than ordinary service to the Society, or who have distinguished themselves in the art and science of illumination, are recognized through the IESNA by recognition at the Sectional, Regional or Society level. Designation is made through the appropriate level.

Recognition is given for varying contributions and defined with the following categories:

Presented for valuable contribution to the technical activities of the Society, to the art and science of illumination or to the related scientific or engineering fields.

Presented in recognition of members having 30 or more years of continuous membership in the Society.

Presented in recognition of exceptional service of a non-technical nature for having significantly furthered the purpose for which the Society was founded, having continued over a minimum of five years at the Regional level. Presented in recognition of outstanding service to the Section, principally of a non-technical nature, that has significantly furthered the purpose of the Society. The Service award recognizes a minimum of five years of service; the Meritorious award a minimum of fifteen years of service.
